Eric J. Altorfer

Chief Executive Officer - CEO

Eric J. Altorfer is entering his 26th year of service with the San Francisco Police Department and brings proven command-level leadership, investigative expertise, and real-world public safety experience to his role as Chief Executive Officer of STAC Protection & Security Services.

As an SFPD Captain, Eric has served in leadership assignments involving citywide field operations, professional standards, internal affairs, transit security, violent crime investigations, and large-scale public safety planning. He is currently serving as the Department’s Night Captain, where he is responsible for all overnight police operations across San Francisco and serves as the highest-ranking officer on duty during those hours. In that role, Eric provides command-level oversight, directs resources during critical incidents, coordinates with specialized units, and ensures operational continuity during high-risk events and incidents of public concern.

Eric’s investigative background includes leading and supervising complex investigations involving violent crime, financial crime, officer-involved shootings, in-custody deaths, workplace misconduct, and serious policy violations. He has also overseen enforcement operations involving fugitive apprehension, narcotics investigations, vehicle theft abatement, and coordinated public safety responses with local, state, and federal partners.

Eric holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from California Coast University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and California POST Command College Class #74, and has earned the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation Certificate through extensive specialized investigative training. He was also selected for and is currently attending the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security Master’s Degree Program.

Through STAC, Eric applies the same discipline, preparation, accountability, and sound judgment that have guided his public safety career to help clients protect their people, property, and operations.

Edwin Gaffud

Chief Operations Officer - COO

With 28 years of law enforcement experience, along with military service and extensive private-sector protective security experience, Edwin Gaffud serves as Chief Operations Officer of STAC Protection & Security Services. A lifelong San Francisco resident and military veteran, Edwin served as a military police officer in both the United States Air Force and United States Army, building a foundation in discipline, operational readiness, and protective security. His deep knowledge of San Francisco, its neighborhoods, and its public safety environment strengthens STAC’s ability to deliver practical, locally informed security solutions.

Edwin’s extensive law enforcement background includes service with the San Francisco Police Department as a Patrol Officer, Plainclothes Officer, Background Investigator, and 10B Overtime Coordinator. After retiring from the SFPD, Edwin transitioned into private-sector security operations, serving as an Off-Duty Officer for major technology companies and applying his experience in law enforcement, security coordination, and operational support. He has also served as an Off-Duty Services Manager for a major security company, as well as a Security Program Manager and First Responder Ambassador for autonomous vehicle companies.

Edwin is also an experienced executive protection professional who has served as the primary close protection officer for CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. His executive protection experience includes close protection, secure transportation coordination, advance planning, threat awareness, route assessment, access control, and discreet client support. He is also an Armed Security Officer (ASO) under the Department of Homeland Security/TSA DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP), further strengthening his background in high-level protective security operations.

At STAC, Edwin oversees security services with a focus on operations, client satisfaction, personnel deployment, vendor partnerships, risk assessment, and emergency planning. His leadership ensures that STAC delivers proactive, reliable, and responsive security solutions tailored to each client’s needs across San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.
